Giving schools the equipment they need to teach STEM and build awareness of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Genesis customers are helping schools get the STEM equipment they need to inspire students to become the next generation of New Zealand innovators. Customers can donate to the Trust with a monthly top-up of $2, $5 or $10 on their bill. Donations since September 2019 were part of the funds used to purchase 200 Chromebooks for distribution to students during the COVID-19 crisis.
Puketaua Primary School students are thinking about STEM careers having becoming inspired by using the equipment supplied by the Genesis School-gen Trust. In addition students who previously showed little interest in maths, reading and writing, have become totally engaged in learning using the equipment.
Tawa Intermediate School received a range of STEM equipment in the 2019 funding round delivering a more hands-on experience for the students. Technology, like drones, has prompted discussions around ‘social responsibility’ and Sphero robots were used to understand the importance of social distancing during the COVID-19 crisis.
Chromebooks make a difference in lockdown
Chromebooks purchased by the Genesis School-gen Trust and given out the day before lockdown meant 200 students could stay connected with their teachers and continue their learning. Most importantly, it meant the students didn’t risk falling behind. Find out what it meant to Angelica, one of the recipients of a Chromebook, and hear what it meant to her to be able to keep learning.
