  • A further seven schools receive solar and STEM equipment packages

The Trustees of the Genesis School-gen Trust are pleased to announce a further six schools will receive STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) equipment packages and one school a solar equipment package. The total value of the equipment packages being distributed is $50,000.

More than 180 schools, including primary, intermediate and secondary schools from Northland to Southland applied for funding during this second funding round for 2019.

The schools were selected based on their desire to shift students from being consumers of technology to creators, the potential to involve the wider community in the learning journey and the intention to engage students in real-world problem solving.

In alphabetical order, the schools include:

  • Dunstan High School, Central Otago
  • Glendene School, Auckland
  • Horohoro School, South-west of Rotorua
  • Parawai School, Thames
  • Pukeatua Primary School, Lower Hutt
  • South End School, Carterton
  • Tawa Intermediate, North Wellington

South End School will use its solar equipment package to monitor the energy the school gets from the sun, reduce the school’s energy costs, and compare its energy generation to more than 90 other solar schools across New Zealand through the Genesis School-gen website.

Equipment provided to the other six schools includes electronic devices such as laptops, Chrome books and iPads as well as coding and robotics equipment. Science equipment packs will cover chemistry, physics and biology.
